Nairobi county government has appropriated funds to settle electricity debts owed to Kenya Power by the City Hall. The County’s Debt Management council estimates the total electricity debt owed by the City Hall to be Sh691.58 million.
Nairobi County Assembly Budget and Appropriation Committee blames the failure to pay outstanding bills on the disruption of county activities within the City Hall complex. The Appropriation Committee, however, has set aside Sh691 million to offset its debt with the power distribution company.
The Nairobi county administrator, Ann Kananu, also alleges that Kenya Power owes the county Sh856 million in way leave charges and rent arrears.
