Saudi-based ACWA intends to bid at South Africa’s next renewable energy auction. The auction will be for the procurement of 1.6GW of wind energy and 1GW of solar capacity. The South African Department of Mineral Resources and Energy said that it expects projects under that auction window to reach financial close by March 2022, with grid connection slated for April 2024.

Rajit Nanda, chief portfolio management officer for ACWA, noted that ACWA intends to participate in this auction round and future events. ACWA is already developing a 100 MW Redstone concentrated solar plant. Construction of the plant commenced this month after the project reached a financial close.
