SENEGAL: Malicounda Project Now 95% Complete

The Malicounda fuel to power project in the Malicounda is now 95% complete. The 120 MW combined cycle thermal power plant is situated in the Thiès Region of Western Senegal. The plant will generate a total of 956 GWh of power annually. When completed, the plant will add 17% to the total generation capacity in the country. The impact of the project will be the reduction of generation costs in the country to an estimated 14% and a decrease in electricity tariffs of about, 3-7%.

The Government of Senegal has invested in the country’s electricity sector with the aim of developing its economy. Through its Plan Sénégal Emergent (PSE), the government aims at improving electricity access in the country. The Malicounda project is will become operational later this year.
