DRC rebuilds power line in the aftermath of the volcanic eruption
- Mount Nyiragongo erupted last week, cutting off the power supply
Following the eruption of Mount. Nyiragongo on Saturday, the rebuilding of power lines destroyed by the eruption has begun. Crews from Virunga Energies company have begun rebuilding the power lines.
“There were two lava flows. This one is the biggest, the first one. It cut off the power to the city of Goma. For us it is a huge problem, not only because it deprives the population of electricity, but also because it is the main source of energy for the water pumping stations in the city”, Director of Virunga National Park, Emmanuel de Merode said,
