- An Independent inquiry investigated these allegations
- Former Eskom CPO made these allegations
Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the South African state-owned power company Eskom, André de Ruyter, has been cleared of allegations of racism, among other allegations. The CEO was accused of abuse of power, irregular recruitment and unlawful procurement, irregular appointments etc. The allegations were brought by the former Former Chief Procurement Officer (CPO), Solly Tshitangano.
Eskom’s Board set up an independent inquiry to investigate the allegations. According to a statement released on Wednesday, the inquiry headed by Advocate Ishmael Semenya has cleared Mr Ruyter of these allegations. ”Advocate Semenya reports that Mr Tshitangano denied making these allegations. Despite knowing that these allegations of racism were ‘wrong, egregious, false, baseless, and lacking any substantiation’, the CPO did not publicly deny them”, the statement read.
Following a disciplinary action, the former CPO has been dismissed. ”The board also noted that in a separate disciplinary hearing concerning poor performance chaired by Advocate Cassim SC, that Tshitangano had been found guilty and dismissed”, the statement concluded.
