Eskom reaches load shedding agreement with City of Ekurhuleni

State-owned power company Eskom has reached an agreement with the City of Ekurhuleni to implement its load shedding schedule. Eskom has requested the city to rectify pending agreements on load shedding. In compliance with the National Energy Regulator of South Africa (NERSA), Eskom began implementing the load reduction to the city’s supply points on 31st May.
Eskom accused the municipality of continuously failing to implement approved load shedding schedules. “These pleas have yielded very little success with the municipality continuous failing to implement the required load shedding in its areas of supply”, Eskom stated. “Yesterday, the City acknowledged that they were unable to implement load shedding as required”, the statement continued.
Acknowledging its failure to implement load shedding agreement, the City of Ekuheleni has asked Eskom to implement the power cuts at its supply points as a temporary measure. Eskom has asked the city to ensure it communicates the terms of the new agreement with its residents. “The City further agreed to communicate this agreement with Eskom to the municipality’s customers, and to publish the revised load shedding schedules”, the statement read.
