IFC has invested €59.6 million in Romania’s second green bond.
- The proceeds from the bond will be used to finance sustainable projects.
The International Finance Corporation (IFC) has invested RON294 million (€59.6 million) in Romania‘s second green bond less than a month after investing RON80.3 million (€16.3 million) in its first. According to the IFC, the investments have been issued by the Raiffeisen Bank S.A., a subsidiary of the Austrian Raiffeisen Bank International group. The IFC stated that the proceeds of the bond would be used to finance renewable energy, sustainable agriculture, green buildings, energy efficiency and clean transport projects.
Steven Van Groningen, president and CEO of Raiffeisen Bank S.A., noted that delivering sustainable financial solutions will enable the bank to achieve its target of becoming a leading financial group globally. “With our second green bond issuance, we are continuing the path to mobilize capital for sustainable purposes, to integrate social and environmental considerations in risk management, to ensure progressive decarbonization of portfolios, and to include sustainability factors into key business areas.” He added.
