East African regional hydroelectric dam to begin operations in December
- Tanzania, Rwanda and Burundi Ministers tour project

The East African regional power project, Rusumo Falls Hydroelectric Project, will begin operations in December. This was disclosed as the Ministers of three regional beneficiaries of the project, Burundi, Rwanda, and Tanzania conducted a project tour. The project will generate 80MW of electricity to be supplied in the three East African countries.
The power plant’s civil works are located at the Rusumo border between Tanzania and Rwanda, and the switchyard is located in Rwanda. Rwandan Infrastructure Minister Claver Gatete has commended the project. “We are targeting to complete in December, that is the target we have given ourselves, assuming nothing coming and surprising us”, he said.
”The tunnel that has been going on for a long time, I am happy to report that it has been completed, the rest is now to make sure that they do the finishing so that the water can go through that tunnel, the water will be going to the powerhouse. There is really a lot that has been done in terms of having the turbines worked on”, he added.
The project’s Council of Ministers (CoM), chaired by Claver Gatete, will meet in September or early October to follow up on the construction works.
