One hundred youths in Niger State have been trained on solar power installation in the Bida Local Government Area of the state. The sponsor of the training programme, Mallam Usman I. Makanta, Coordinator of Rice Farmers Association of Nigeria (RIFAN), stated that the empowerment training aims to reduce idleness among youths of the state. According to the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) data, the unemployment rate for people aged 25 – 34 years is about 30.7 per cent.
“We didn’t budget for it, but we will continue to improve on it as the training continues. For this graduation, 100 youths have been trained on solar power installation, and we are unfolding the second segment of the training, which is for skills acquisition in computer, tailoring and many others,” he added.
