- Sector reforms will restore constant supply in the sector
- Lack of stakeholder cooperation, a challenge in the sector
- NEMSA secures NiNAS accreditation
The Managing Director Nigeria Electricity Management Services Authority (NEMSA) Engr. Peter Ewesor has said the ongoing sector reforms aimed at standardising equipment in the sector would resolve incessant outages in the country. He made this known at the Nigerian Society of Engineers Ikeja Branch, Lagos State.
Speaking at the Conference, Ewesor stated that some equipment being used in the sector were installed over twenty years ago. He urged for the standardization of equipment according to industry specifications, especially concerning the national grid network, as this will reduce the frequency of system collapses in the sector. He lamented the infiltration of the sector by uncertified personnel who go on to carry out substandard installations.
According to Ewesor, NEMSA secured accreditation from the Nigeria National Accreditation System (NiNAS) in March. The NiNAS was established to provide accreditation with traceability to international standards. Ewesor urged stakeholder cooperation in tackling the issue of substandard equipment and uncertified personnel.
