EGYPT: Egypt, Greece Meet on Electricity Interconnectivity

  • Greece meets with Egypt on electricity project
  • The electricity project will connect the electricity grids in both countries
  • Agreements on the sale of CNG were also discussed

The Egyptian Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy, Mohammed Shaker, met with his Greecian counterpart Kostas Skrekas on the plans to foster electricity connection by connecting the national grids of both countries. The plans for the Euro-Africa electricity collaboration involve connecting the mainland electricity grids of Greece and Egypt, which will be the first between Europe and Africa in the Southeastern Mediterranean. The connection will be made by laying a submarine cable between both countries.

The Ministers also discussed concluding agreements between the Public Gas Corporation of Greece (DEPA) and the Egyptian Natural Gas Holding Company (EGAS) on the purchase and sale of compressed natural gas (CNG) ships. The Greecian Energy Minister, Skrekas, also stressed the importance of bilateral cooperation between the two countries.
