JinkoSolar has announced that it has installed a 1.2MWh  Energy Storage System for one of Africa’s largest developers. The company says that the project will improve electricity consumption in rural communities. JinkoSolar notes that the client is one of West Africa’s biggest developers, developing several projects in partnership with the World Bank and the Local Government.

JinkoSolar offers several Energy Storage System solutions for different applications capable of improving energy supply on the continent, helping to improve the power supply structure in Africa. For example, Jinko C&I Energy Storage System is designed for community microgrid and commercial and industrial application.

The system integrates battery, PCS, DC/DC, switch cabinet, fire-fighting equipment, air-conditioner, EMS and more. The high integration reduces the complex process of the project design, selection and related installation cost.

“For us, this is a milestone project of delivering ESS system to Africa.  It is one of our initial storage projects globally on this scale using DC-coupling. Africa is a very promising market for energy storage due to relatively poor state grid infrastructure and high electricity price; there is a strong potential to replace peaker gas or coal-fired plants in Africa with cleaner alternatives like solar made dispatchable using batteries.” said Gener Miao, CMO of Jinkosolar.
