Clearway to Develop 75MW of Solar Projects in Hawaii

Clearway Energy Group has announced a $285 million (€238.7m) financing deal for 75MW of solar plants in the Hawaiian island of Oahu. The deal includes the 39MW Mililani I and the 36MW Waiawa PV projects, which will have a 300MWh energy storage system.

Clearway says that these projects will be the first utility-scale solar-plus battery facilities on Oahu. Both projects are part of a greater clean energy portfolio of about 1.6GW worth of projects across four U.S. states following a joint-equity funding deal last December.

The Mililani I and Waiawa projects have commenced construction, with the plants scheduled to become operational next year. Clearway had previously completed three solar projects in Hawaii in 2019. When completed, all five power plants will generate 185MW enough to power 45,500 homes annually.
