Côte d’Ivoire has launched a tender for the construction of two solar power plants.
- Developers will construct the plants under the Scaling Solar Initiative.
- The plants will have a total capacity of 60MW.
Côte d’Ivoire’s Ministry of Petroleum, Energy and Renewable Energies (MPEER) has launched a tender for developing two solar plants in Laboa and Touba, in the northeastern part of the country. Selected developers will develop the plants under the World Bank’s Scaling Solar program as the Ivorian government and the International Finance Corporation had signed an agreement for the two projects in November 2018. The plants are expected to have a cumulative capacity of 60MW.
Several utility-scale PV projects are currently under development in Côte d’Ivoire, including 66MW and 25MW plants in Korhogo, a 37.5 MW solar project in the Boundiali department. According to IRENA, at the end of 2020, the country has only 13MW of installed PV capacity.
Developers interested in the tender have until September 6 to prequalify for the procurement exercise.
