Enertronica Santerno plans to invest $1.17 million in solar components manufacturing.
- The company currently produced about 500MW of inverters for solar applications and storage.
- The inverters will have over 40% local content, making them eligible for public procurements.
Italian solar solutions provider, Enertronica Santerno, plans to invest R17 million ($1.17 million) to increase its manufacturing capacity in South Africa. The company produces inverters for solar photovoltaic applications, and storage solutions can currently produce about 500MW per year plans to ramp up its capacity. The company intends to finalise the implementation plan within the next five months.
This decision has been applauded by the South African Photovoltaic Industry Association (SAPVIA), which stated that the inverters would achieve a designated local content value higher than 40 per cent, qualifying them for public tenders. Niveshen Govender, SAPVIA COO, noted that the investment shows South Africa’s solar PV market potential. “Localisation, upskilling and a focus on ensuring true South African participation across the value chain is vital if we are all to benefit from the full rewards of the REIPPPP,” he added.
On the other hand, Luigi Guerra, country manager of Enertronica Santerno, noted that the group had completed some projects in South Africa. “Inverter-based power stations for a total capacity of around 600MW were locally built with a 58% local content, making Enertronica Santerno one of the leading local producers in South Africa in its own market sector,” he added.
