KENYA: Government to End Illegal Connections in Nairobi

The Kenyan government seeks an end to the rising cases of illegal connections in the Nairobi slums by implementing a framework for the provision of safe electricity connections in these areas. Assistant County Commissioner South B, Michael Aswani Were, has said the government wants to put an end to death by electrocution due to illegal connections.

“The government aims to supply its citizens with clean and safe energy for use at home and in industries. It also intends to end the number of deaths caused by electrocution,” Were said. He also added that the government will save millions lost to the electricity fraud. The government will work hand-in-hand with community leaders and officials from Kenya Power in tackling the cases of electricity fraud.

Kenya Power suffers huge revenue losses from the increase in equipment vandalism and electrical theft.
