Zimbabwe’s President Emmerson Mnangagwa has directed the Minister of Energy Zhemu Soda to resolve the electricity challenges in the country. He gave the ultimatum at the commissioning of state-owned power utility Zimbabwe Electricity Supply Authority (ZESA) transformers in Harare. ”Minister of Energy and Power Development (Zhemu Soda), I want that in this country, after two years, maximum three years. We should have all the energy we want, and no one should be able to spell the word ‘load shedding’ in the next two to three years”, President Mnangagwa said.

President Mnangagwa decried the increase in the vandalisation of electrical equipment; he tasked the ZESA with resolving vandalism. ”To this end, the risk and loss control unit of Zesa Holdings is directed to work closely and honestly with the police and other arms of the State to eliminate the scourge of vandalism”, Mnangagwa said.

He further tasked ZESA to collaborate with its Rwandan counterpart to resolve its revenue collection challenges. President Mnangagwa directed that a proposed partnership with the Rwandan Energy Group (REG) be expedited to ensure collaboration on Zimbabwe power sector challenges.
