- Egypt issues Nuclear power licenses
- NPPA issues licensing documentation to ENRRA
The Egyptian Nuclear Power Plants Authority (NPPA) has issued all the necessary licensing documentation for constructing Units 1 and 2 of the El Dabaa Nuclear Power Plant to the Nuclear and Radiological Regulation Authority (ENRRA). Subsidiary companies of the Russian State Atomic Energy Corporation (ROSATOM) will provide the Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) among other services. The El Dabaa Nuclear Plant will comprise four VVER-1200 reactor units fully compliant with all post-Fukushima International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) requirements. The El Dabaa nuclear plant will be the first of its kind in Egypt and the entire region.
NPPA Board Chairman Dr Amged El-Wakeel stated that ”Since the launch of the Egyptian nuclear project under the auspices of the political leadership, we have spared no effort in implementing the successive commitments related to the project’s development”. ”Today, we are proud to complete this work with the highest quality standards, fulfilling local and international requirements”, he added.
The licenses for constructing Units 1 and 2 of the Nuclear plant will be issued in the first half of 2022, a representative of Egypt’s Ministry of Electricity and Renewable Energy stated. “It is expected that permission for the construction of the first two reactors will be obtained in the first half of next year,” Aiman Hamza said.
