The Libyan Prime Minister of the Government of National Unity (GNU), Abdel Hamid Dbeibah, has made moves to address electricity shortages in the country. In furtherance of improving supply in the country, Prime Minister Dbeibah held discussions with the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of General Electric (GE) Power, Scott L. Strazik.
According to Prime Minister Dbeibah, the GNU is working towards launching a long-term approach to investment in the Libyan energy sector. Long term investments will help create job opportunities and guarantee benefits for the country.
The General Electricity Company of Libya (GECOL), Wiam Al-Abdali, has also confirmed that power production is expected to rise 7,200 by 2022. Al-Abdali, in a statement, says that loads are expected to be permanently sorted in 2022 if no further emergency or unrest occurs. He added that 1,700MW would be added to the grid by December 2021.
