Residents of Maryland and River Gee County in Southeast Liberia are expected to be electrified. The communities are to be electrified under the Liberia Energy Efficiency Access Project (LEEAP). The LEEAP is jointly funded by the African Development Bank (AfDB), the European Union (EU) and the Liberian government for $31.8 million.
The Project Manager, Anil Gaur, said all materials needed for the project, including streetlights, transformers, light poles, meters, and power cables, are being imported into the country. He added that 41 pieces of 250kW transformers had been received.
Mr Gaur also added that the project would extend existing transmission lines in Maryland to River Gee. The project will also connect several private and public consumers to electricity and provide over 200 jobs to locals. Gaur thanked the Liberian government for its commitment to the development of the sector.
