- India Export-Import Bank approves buyer credit
The Export-Import (Exim) Bank of India has approved a buyer-credit facility of $35.26 million for the government of Senegal towards the construction of a transmission line from Tanaff to Ziguinchor. The agreement was signed in Dakar, Senegal, between the Indian Exim Bank represented by Selva Kumar and the Senegalese Minister of Economic, Planning and Cooperation, Amadou Hott.
The project is a 92km overhead electricity transmission line to be constructed by Kalpataru Power Transmission Ltd. The project aims to secure the electricity supply to the southern part of Senegal, particularly Tambacounda, Ziguinchor, and Tanaff, and reduce operating costs and price per kilowatt-hour. The project will also facilitate the interconnection of the 225 kV power transmission line with the Gambia River Basin Development Organization (OMVG) Energy Project. The OMVG Energy Project is a sub-regional project that aims to integrate the electricity market of member countries, i.e. Gambia, Guinea, Guinea Bissau, and Senegal, with a view to the harmonious exploitation of the joint resources of Rivers Gambia, Kayanga-Géba and Koliba-Corubal.
