Sweden has ratified the framework agreement for the International Solar Alliance (ISA), an initiative of India to promote renewable energy and sustainable development. According to Sweden’s Ambassador to India, Klas Molin, the country is glad to join the alliance. It plans to contribute its expertise and experience in renewable energy and clean energy technologies to tackle climate change.
Sweden’s ratification of the ISA comes four months after a discussion between India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Swedish premier Stefan Lofven on boosting cooperation in innovation, technology and climate change. According to Sweden, the ratification of the framework agreement of the ISA and its membership entered into force on July 17.
The Director-General of ISA, Ajay Mathur, expressed delight at Sweden’s joining of the ISA. “This is the starting point of a strategic partnership between ISA and Sweden. I am sure we can achieve a sustainable, equitable and more prosperous future for all through solar energy,” he said. One major objective of the ISA is to mobilise over $1 trillion in investments for solar energy by 2030.
