- ZETDC to compensate consumers for power surges
The Zimbabwe Electricity Transmission and Distribution Company (ZETDC) has developed a mechanism for the compensation of consumers for losses suffered due to power surges on its network. The Power and Energy Development minister, Zhemu Soda, made this known in an interview with The Sunday Mail Business.
Minister Soda said the ZETDC, a power transmission unit of ZESA Holdings, had developed a mechanism for mitigating losses incurred by customers due to a surge in the electricity supply voltage. A power surge may occur when the supply voltage is above the normal operating voltage and can cause damages to appliances.
”There is an insurance policy to cover for such losses and a process of validation will be done to ascertain the loss before compensation,” Soda said.
