- Namibia exported more electricity in June
- The country saw its local consumption drop in the same month
In its electricity sector report, the Namibia Statistics Agency (NSA) stated that the country consumed less electricity in June while exports rose in the same month. A total of 284,881Mwh electricity was sold locally compared to 297,400Mwh sold in the previous month. The country exported a total of 9,015Mwh in June compared to 8,915Mwh exported in May.
The domestic sales index also declined for June by 4.2%. Export sales, on the other hand, rose by 1.1% in June. “Export sales index posted a monthly increase of 1.1% in June 2021, compared to a reduction of 1.9% registered in May 2021. On an annual basis, the index went down by 3.7%. The report read that the monthly increase in electricity export was destined to South Africa, Rietfontein and Angola,” the report read.
The country saw a 32.5% decline in generation for electricity generation due to the reduced generation from the Ruacana Power Station.
