The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) Tema South office has warned consumers of the dangers of illegal connections. The ECG explained to its customers that such connections were illegal and constitute a crime.

In a community engagement organised by ECG, the South District Manager of Tema South, Mr Christopher Apawu also, addressed the consumers on safety issues. He explained how the meters ratings functioned. ”We calculate the expected load and provide an equivalent meter,” Apawu said.

”…if after we give you the meter, then you turn yourself into a distributor, it would lead to overload and subsequent burning of the meter leading to fire outbreak,” he explained further. ”Such acts, apart from causing ECG to loses some of its power, also lead to residents experiencing low voltages for their gadgets,” he added.

Mr Apawu announced to the consumers present at the engagement that ECG would begin disconnecting all illegal connections in the area. Furthermore, he urged customers to transact their business at the offices of the ECG and not with fraudulent individuals.
