Mozambican authorities have commissioned a 200 kWp solar mini-grid power plant in Matchedje, in the province of Niassa. The mini-grid plant will provide electricity for 400 households. The system was financed by the Mozambican Energy Fund (FUNAE).
At the plant’s inauguration, Mozambique’s President, Felipe Nyusi, noted that the government would intensify its electricity interventions to stimulate access to electricity in rural areas with a focus on clean energy sources. The President has set a target of providing energy access to 10 million by 2024 and universal access by 2030.
The president also inaugurated other power projects, including a 23km medium voltage line, 14km low voltage line, and four transformer stations. The extension of the national electricity network in this locality also allowed for installing 94 street lamps for public lighting. In addition, several public buildings were also electrified, including a school, a health centre, two government buildings, seven shops and two flour mills.
