Poland Increases Solar Capacity by 1.3GW in H1 2021

  • Poland added 1.3GW of solar in H1 2021.
  • The country added 900MW in 2020.
  • Total installed solar capacity now 5.2GW

Poland’s grid operator Polskie Sieci Elektroenergetyczne (PSE) has stated that the country has installed a total of 5,232MW of installed solar capacity by June 2021. Furthermore, PSE notes that the H1 2021, the total installed PV capacity clocked 1.3GW. This was greater than the 900MW that the country added in the whole of 2020.

Poland plans to add 2GW of solar every year over the next five years. The country is expected to reach about 19.93GW of installed PV capacity by 2025, according to Polish research institute Instytut Energetyki Odnawialnej. The recent growth in solar installations has been attributed to the increasing number of grid-connected solar parks, the country’s auction scheme and incentives for rooftop PV.
