- Government to invest $600 million in electricity generation
The government of Angola is set to invest $600 million in improving electricity generation in the country’s southern region. The Minister of Energy and Water, João Baptista Borges, announced on Tuesday.
Borges stated that the government is negotiating with the African Development Bank (AfDB) and the Kingdom of Spain. The projects to be undertaken will strengthen the capacity and quality of electricity in the southern region. Some projects include constructing a high voltage 400km long Huambo/Lubango transmission line, the Huambo/Matala line and the Lubango/Namibe transmission line.
The funding for the Huambo/Lubango connection has been guaranteed by the AfDB financing, while Japan Cooperation Fund will also finance the Lubango/Namibe line. The Kingdom of Spain will finance the Huambo/Matala line.
