- Lebanon is on the verge of a crisis due to crippling fuel shortages
The United States (US) government has stated that it will assist Lebanon in resolving its fuel shortages. Lebanon has been reeling from the impact of fuel shortages on several sectors of its economy. Lebanon was thrown into darkness due to extreme fuel shortages; earlier this week, Lebanon was thrown into darkness following the total collapse of its electricity grid.
According to the Lebanese Presidency, President Michel Aoun was informed that the United States would assist Lebanon with electricity provision as the country struggles with crippling fuel shortages. Electricity generated from Jordan will be transmitted to Lebanon via Syria, and also natural gas will be transported to Lebanon. Negotiations are, however, ongoing with the World Bank to finance the cost of the gas.
