Turning a Blind Eye

With all the challenges befalling Nigerian citizens in the country, the federal government appears to have a different scale of preference hence turning a blind eye to the welfare of its citizens.

Over the weekend, a series of events took place, one of which included the president of the federation approving to review grazing reserves in some states in the country.

This approval raised many concerns from citizens in the country as it appears that the president has turned a blind eye to the critical challenges bedevilling the country.

Among the many challenges in Nigeria are insecurity, food scarcity, unemployment, lack of electricity access e.t.c. Moreover, it is appalling because cases of kidnappings and violent killings have increased. In addition, the president appears to be bothered with cattle and their safety by deploying machinery and government personnel to impose grazing reserves and cattle routes on Nigerians.

One could agree that there is a need to create grazing reserves in the country; however, it is not a priority for citizens at this point.

For instance, there are many challenges around electricity generation, transmission, and distribution in the electricity sector. In a report issued by the World Bank, Nigeria ranks among the top countries in sub-Saharan Africa without access to electricity. The lack of access to electricity contributes significantly to the poor economic growth in the country while contributing to the insecurity challenges in the country.

It is high time the federal government quit turning a blind eye to the wails of its citizens but rather make moves that would address the challenges being faced while improving the country’s economic state.
