- Power restored to Kariba Municipality
- Municipality to pay ZPC $36 million
- Agrees to pay ZETDC arrears
The Zimbabwe Power Company (ZPC) has reached an agreement with Kariba Municipality to restore supply to the municipal’s water intake and pump stations. The ZPC on Monday disconnected supply to the municipal, resulting in a disruption to water supply in the affected areas. The Kariba Municipality owes the ZPE up to $39 million in arrears.
Following the agreement between the ZPC and Kariba Municipality, supply services were restored. The Municipality agreed to pay $36 million to ZPC and also clear outstanding debt with the state-owned utility, Zimbabwe Electricity Transmission and Distribution Company (ZETDC). As a sign of goodwill, Kariba Municipality has made a payment of $3.5 million.
“We are grateful that we have managed to reach an agreement with Zesa. Electricity has been restored to our water intake stations while we move to mobilise funds to clear the September bill,” Mayor George Masendu stated.
