The Angolan ambassador to China, João Salvador dos Santos Neto is wooing Chinese investors to develop low-carbon energy sources. The minister noted that these energy projects could help diversify the Southern African country’s economy, which is highly dependent on fossil fuels.
The minister speaking at a round table on “Low Carbon Energy Sources”, which took place in Taiyuan, Shanxi Province, stated that “Angola has a tropical climate, sun in all seasons of the year, flowing rivers and winds with the necessary power for the development of projects in the field of renewable energies.”
João Salvador Neto added that Angola has also adopted a national biofuel strategy to transition from fossil energy to low carbon energy sources such as hydro, solar, biodiesel and wind. In addition, Neto acknowledged the role of international cooperation and transcontinental investment in clean energy as vital to limiting the effects of climate change and boosting industrialization and technological innovation.
