Nigerian clean energy company, Reeddi has been selected as one of the 15 finalists for the Earthshot Prize for environmental innovation. The company was selected for its Reeddi Capsules – a solar-powered energy capsule – that provides affordable electricity in energy-poor communities.

Prince William and The Royal Foundation launched the Earthshot Prize in October last year. The Earthshot Prize aims to award ‘Earthshots’ – simple but ambitious goals for our planet that will improve lives globally if achieved by 2030.  Announcing the finalists on Friday, Prince William said: “I am honoured to introduce the 15 innovators, leaders, and visionaries who are the first-ever finalists for the Earthshot Prize.

Reeddi noted that the company is thrilled to see its work to fix the climate recognised alongside so many other incredible solutions. Five inaugural winners will be announced during an awards ceremony on October 17 at London’s Alexandra Palace. Each winner will receive £1 million. The Earthshot Prize aims to award over 50 winners over the next decade, providing at least 50 solutions to the world’s greatest environmental problems.
