- Ubiquity Solar will repurpose a former IBM site to set up a solar cell factory.
- The Canadian company plans to produce utility-grade and advanced space-grade PV cells at the facility.
New York Governor Kathy Hochul and Ubiquity Solar have announced that the solar company will set up solar manufacturing operations at a former IBM site in the village of Endicott in Broome County, New York. In addition, Ubiquity Solar is set to invest about $61 million to repurpose 800,000 square feet of space at the former IBM campus.
The facility, which is expected to be completed by the end of next year estimated to create about 150 highly skilled jobs when operational. Ubiquity Solar believes that the expansion in capacity will enable it to produce 1.5MW of advanced space-grade PV cells for aerospace customers and 350MW of utility-grade PV cells next year.
