- NLC issues warning to FG
- Holds FG to the agreement reached by the FG-Labour committee
The President of the Nigeria Labour Congress Ayuba Wabba (NLC) has warned the Federal Government (FG) against disregarding the agreement reached by the FG-Labour Committee on electricity tariffs. Wabba recalled the consensus reached by the FG-Labour Committee on September 28, 2020, where both parties agreed that tariff increments should be put on hold till further notice.
Recently, the media have alleged a tariff increment which, according to Wabba, has been refuted. “The story was purportedly distilled from the remarks of the Special Adviser to the President on Infrastructure at the stakeholders’ engagement of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) held in Lagos on Sept.17,” Wabba said
“To be charitable, Congress had received a refutation of the newspaper report from the Special Adviser and Secretary of the FGN-Labour Committee on Electricity Tariff earlier on September 21,” he added.
He, however, insisted that any attempt to increase electricity tariff in contradiction of the FG-Labour committee on electricity tariff agreement will be resisted. Furthermore, the NLC has vowed to resist increments through industrial action.
