- KenGen begins construction of a new research and development centre
- To boost innovation in the sector
The state-owned Kenya Electricity Generating Company (KenGen) has begun constructing the new Research and Development (R&D) centre at the Tana Power station. The move comes amid the push for innovation in the electricity sector. The Managing Director KenGen, Rebecca Miano, who spoke at the foundation stone laying ceremony, stated that the project is part of KenGen’s diversification strategy.
”With this facility, KenGen employees now have a place to carry out trials, tests, experiments and pilot new business in the context of our diversification strategy,” Miano said. She also stated that the project would help the firm identify and implement new revenue streams.
Miano thanked the local community for their continuous support and noted that the project would provide employment opportunities for the skilled and semi-skilled workforce in the community. The project is expected to be completed in the next 18 months.
