- GVA is set to deploy off-grid solar systems in 50 schools in Ghana’s Volta region.
- The first school has been fitted with a 400kW solar system.
Global Village Africa (GVA), a Ghanian non-governmental organization (NGO) and the old students of Keta Business College (CORONATS) have inaugurated a programme that aims to deploy off-grid solar systems to unelectrified high schools in the Volta Region. The five-year development plan will see the GVA electrify over 50 schools in deprived communities in the Volta Region.
The first school set to benefit from the programme is Ketabusco, where 400kW of solar power has already been installed. Although GVA’s President, Sitsope Wotordzor, noted that the project would solve educational challenges, he adds that the continent has enough solar potentials to meet its daily energy needs. He, however, urged African leaders to create an enabling environment to accelerate socio-economic development.
