- Zimbabwe negotiates new power deal
- To sign deals with Zambia and Mozambique for additional 280MW electricity imports
The Zimbabwean Minister of Energy and Power Development, Zhemu Soda, is negotiating new power deals with Zambia and Mozambique for an additional 280MW of electricity imports. However, Zimbabwe is forced to import additional electricity to meet its demand due to frequent operational challenges at the Hwange power station.
Speaking on the negotiations, Soda stated that, “Zambia has indicated that they have a surplus of 100 MW from the Kafue Gorge, which they can sell to us, and a delegation from ZESA went to Zambia on Monday for the negotiations,”
“Mozambique also told us that they have an additional 180 MW over and above what we are currently importing, and these new two deals will give us an additional 280 MW. That should help us to reduce the deficit of between 200 and 300 MW,” Soda added.
Zimbabwe also has an agreement for 100MW electricity imports with South Africa’s state-owned utility, Eskom.
