- Zungeru Hydro Power gets ₦43 billion allocation
- Mambilla Hydro Power project gets counterpart funding
- The Distribution Expansion programme also gets an allocation
The Zungeru and Mambilla Hydro Power projects have been allocated the sum of ₦293 billion in the 2022 Budget. The Zungeru project was allocated ₦43.065 billion while ₦250 billion was earmarked as counterpart funding for the Mambilla project.
The Zungeru project located in Niger state is expected to add 700MW to the national grid, with a deadline for completion set for the end of 2021. The Mambilla project, on the other hand, with an estimated $5.8 billion in project costs, is a 3,050MW facility located in Taraba state. The project, which was conceived in 1972, has been entangled in several controversies; however, the kickoff of the project is expected to begin soon.
The Ministry of Power has also allocated ₦800m for the Distribution Expansion Programme (DEP), a component of the Siemens deal. The total budget for the Ministry of Power stands at ₦301.2bn, a ₦96 billion increase from the 2021 budget.
