GHANA: ECG to Embark on Disconnection Exercise in Tema South District

  • ECG to embark on disconnection exercise in Tema South slums

The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has stated that it will embark on a disconnection exercise in the Tema South region slums to disconnect all illegal and haphazard connections in the area.

“We will disconnect all cables at the slums, it’s a disaster in waiting, and any little spark can lead to fire outbreaks,” r Christopher Apawu, ECG Tema South District Engineer, disclosed at a meeting with the Tema Metropolitan Assembly (TMA).

Mr Apawu stated that it is the policy of the ECG not to connect slums to its network; however, any structure requiring electrical connection must request a letter from the Tema Metropolitan Assembly authorizing them to reside in such areas. He urged residents to desist from tampering with electrical installations.
