Indian company group Tata plans to construct a 4GW solar PV production facility in Tamil Nadu in India. The group is currently in talks with the state government, with negotiations in the final stages. It is believed that the group will invest INR 30 billion (S403.4m) in the project. Tata plans to construct the plant in Gangaikondan near the city of Tirunelveli. Tata expects the facility to provide about 2,000 jobs.
The Southernmost Indian state is a hotbed of solar PV manufacturing as Vikram Solar had earlier in July opened a 1.3GW solar module facility. In addition, US solar company First Solar announced plans to construct a 3.3GW DC thin-film solar module facility in the state. The facility is expected to commence operations in H2 2023.
