- The JICA has signed an agreement with Japanese utilities to develop a decarbonisation roadmap for Indonesia’s power sector.
- Indonesia aims to achieve net-zero by 2060.
Japanese utility companies have signed an agreement that will see them help the Indonesian power sector to decarbonise. Under the agreement signed with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), Tokyo Electric Power Company (TEPCO), TEPCO Power Grid, JERA and Tokyo Electric Power Services will develop a roadmap that takes into account the specific conditions in Indonesia. In addition, the proposed “Data Collection Survey on Power Sector in Indonesia for Decarbonization” survey will also recommend actions that the JICA could implement in Indonesia in support of the roadmap.
TEPCO PG will serve as the project supervisor and survey and study power development and demand assumption to effectively propose ways to achieve carbon neutrality and power supply stability. In addition, TEPCO will analyse and research energy policies, regulations, and economic and financial matters related to decarbonisation while developing an institutional and financial roadmap for the decarbonisation of Indonesia’s power sector.
The Indonesian government in July submitted its long-term strategy for decarbonisation to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) secretariat. Indonesia plans to achieve carbon neutrality before 2060.
