- AECPF calls for an audit of DisCos
- Asks NERC to beef up its regulatory oversight functions
The National Coordinator of the All Electricity Consumers Protection Forum (AECPF), Mr Adeola Samuel-Ilori, has called for a forensic audit of Electricity Distribution Companies. Mr Samuel-Ilori made this call following the recent strike action by the Staff Union of the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC).
He accused the AEDC of managerial failure while calling for the audit of the DisCos to determine the financial stability of the utilities.
”The Federal Government does not have the power to sack the DisCos management but what government can do as a stakeholder in the 11 DisCos is to do a forensic audit on their books,” Samuel-Ilori said.
”The inability of some of the DisCos to meet their financial obligations to stakeholders in the electricity sector, including their employees eight years after privatisation is worrisome,” he added.
He called on the Nigeria Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) to step up its regulatory oversight by ensuring compliance with the various sector regulations and procedures.
