The Uganda Electricity Generation Company Limited (UEGCL) has begun connecting several villages to the electricity network. UEGCL says villages would benefit from electricity generated from the Isimba Hydro Power Station in Kayunga District.

Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja, who launched the connection programme, urged residents to take advantage of the connection for economic purposes.

“It is electricity which promotes the development of industries for processing goods like sugar, milk, coffee tea, which we should be exporting to our neighbouring countries and also create jobs for our youth,” she said.

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) UEGCL, Mr Harrison Mutikanga, stated that the connection programme has led to the construction of health facilities, schools in the area.
