- France to ramp up operating hours to 1000 hours
- Deadline for the shutdown of its coal plants not affected
This January, the French government will issue a decree temporarily ramping up coal usage to avoid electricity shortages this winter. France will allow its last two operational coal power plants to increase production following the closure of some of its nuclear power plants.
The move will temporarily increase the operating hours from 700 to 1,000 hours until the end of February. France’ Ministry of Ecological Transition has, however, clarified that the temporary move to increase operating hours of the coal plants would not affect the countrys’ timetable for the closure of the remaining coal plants.
The Moselle power plant will shut down its operations in March, while the Cordemais plant will run until 2024. Other coal plants in Le Havre, and Gardanne, have been shut down.
