Swiss energy company BKW AG will purchase electricity from a 10.3MW solar-plus-storage project in southern Germany. German engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) services provider MaxSolar GmbH will supply the power under a five-year power purchase agreement (PPA) from the plant currently under construction in northern Bavaria.
The facility is situated on an area of 12.8 hectares in the village of Reckertshausen, Bavaria. The plant is expected to supply power to about 2,630 households and avoid 3,674 tonnes of carbon emissions annually. The plant is being constructed under Germany’s Federal Network Agency innovation tender.
BKW currently operates over 50 hydropower plants across Switzerland and Italy which account for about half the electricity produced by the group. The company is seeking to increase the share of clean energy in its generation portfolio by up to 75% by 2023.
