- Ibom Power to build additional 500MW power plant
- Decries capacity underutilization
The Managing Director of Ibom Power Plc Engr Meyen Etukudo has announced plans to build an additional 500MW power plant to augment its existing 190MW. Etukudo also highlighted the current challenges faced by Ibom power.
He stated that the plant currently deals with the challenge of underutilization of available capacity. ”For instance, if I generate 100MW of electricity and the Disco is only able to take 60MW, I send the remaining 40MW to the grid at the National Control Centre in Osogbo, Osun State. But if the Disco can take everything I generate, there is no point sending it to the grid,” Etukudo said.
Etukudo hailed the Akwa Ibom state governor, Emmanuel Udom, for taking over the construction of the 132/33KVA and 260MVA transmission project at Ikam following the failure of the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) to invest in critical infrastructure. He also noted that Vice President Yemi Osibanjo commissioned the project in 2020.
