- German ministry funds South Africa with at least €12.5 million for the green hydrogen project.

The South African government is working with the German Federal Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development to promote green hydrogen development. The German Ministry of Foreign Affairs has asked its development agency, the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ), to play a role in the project with the Presidency. During a stakeholder engagement in Port Nolloth, the Minister in the Presidency, Mondli Gungubele, announced that the German ministry would fund the project with at least €12.5 million.
The project aims to help South Africa develop a favourable strategic and regulatory framework for a green hydrogen economy coordinate the significant contributions of various government departments and stakeholders to enable collaboration on the development of a green hydrogen export economy. The project will also improve the capacity and knowledge of South African stakeholders in the green hydrogen and Powerfuels sectors.
Gungubele added that the Investment and Infrastructure Office in the Presidency has also committed its support to a project by energy giant Sasol. The German government supported H2Global innovation to produce sustainable aviation fuel to the international community.
