- Addition of 40MW to already existing 55MW
- Street lighting project spans 200 kilometres across the Benin metropolis
- Electricity restored in Ologbo community
Ossiomo Power, based in Benin City, Edo State, has inaugurated a new 40MW Independent Power Plant (IPP) dedicated to powering the Benin Industrial and Enterprise Park and local communities in the state’s Ikpoba Okha Local Government Area. Dr Uwa Igiehon, Managing Director of Ossiomo Power, said that the power plant was providing 24/7 power to the Ologbo and Obayantor communities in collaboration with the Edo State Government.
The plant is an addition to the state’s existing 55MW plant, which has been in operation since 2020 and supplies power to government buildings, offices, and streetlights, among other things. The Benin Enterprise Park, BEP, is a 997-hectare mixed-use development designed to house light industries and residential zones. The street lighting project spans 200 kilometres across the Benin metropolis. On December 29, 2021, the 40MW plant was tested and fully operational.
