- Airtel partners with Avaada Energy to install a solar park
- The solar park is expected to reduce over 25,500 tonnes of carbon emissions per year.
Airtel has announced its installation of a 21MW solar park to power data centres of the Indian telecommunications company Bharti Airtel Limited, Maharashtra state, India.
Airtel partnered with an Indian independent power producer (IPP), Avaada Energy, to develop the project. The solar park involved the installation of some 65,000 solar panels on an 80 acres site in the Bhuldana district. The captive plant will supply power to Airtel’s subsidiary, Nxtra by Airtel, which will use it to meet the consumption needs of its large and edge data centres, and switching centres in Maharashtra, the telecom said.
The Bhuldana project is part of Airtel’s efforts to lower its carbon footprint progressively, and the new solar farm alone is expected to reduce over 25,500 tonnes of carbon emissions per year.
